We'll start the day with a Homework check. Please open you Plotline assignment and the first activity sheet from the package so we can check quickly.

While you are waiting for the check, I would like you to try and put all of your work in the Student Drop Box. If this doesn't work, I have a 'Plan B'. If you have time afterwards, please check this website to read about the movie adaptation of Flowers for Algernon, and answer the following questions in your journal:

  • What differences can you already notice between the short story and the film?
  • If you were the director of a movie version of the story, what might you add or take away from the short story in order to make improvements?

This activity will get you in the right mindset for the next couple of activities. We will be looking at the influence the media has on how a story is told, and how it communicates its intended message. Is a story like Flowers... better left to the printed page or does presenting a story visually always make it better? Are there elements of one medium (story or film) that could not be represented in the other?

Before the end of class, we will break into our pairings to work on the soundtrack project.

Homework -- A minimum of TWO soundtrack entries for this project. I will need to make sure they are being done correctly.
